Five on Friday {March 27}

Hey y'all,

Since it is Friday, and unfortunately my Heels lost last night I thought I would share a quick 5 on Friday post with everyone. This is really random but I hope y'all enjoy and link-up with April, Darci, Christina, and Natasha.


one. Method All Purpose Cleaner. I picked up the Method All Purpose cleaner Sunday when I ran to Target and let me tell you this stuff is amazing! I cleaned my bathroom and kitchen that afternoon and it really does an amazing job cleaning and leaves a wonderful scent. If you have tried Method cleaners do you have a favorite scent?

two.99 days until the 4th of July. YEP! Summer is only 86 days away so for those of you who are still feeling the after effects of all that yummy comfort food, I thought I would tell you about the Work It Out 100 Challenge. It is a challenge to workout everyday for 100 days. I made myself a chart and started on Monday so yay for day 5! The challenge is completely free and if you want updates I think I might post my workouts on my blog's Facebook page.

three. Lilly for Target Look book! I am sure almost all of you have seen the release of Target's collection for Lilly and I am impressed. I love all the dresses and the price point of under $40 a piece! I also really love the home goods especially these mugs. I can't wait to see the collection in person on April 19th!

four. Happy (belated) Founders Day! Yesterday marked the 37th birthday of PBX! I am so blessed by this organization and can't believe our Nationals is celebrating another year!

Whirlwind Wedding Weekend

Hey y'all,

I am still trying to get back on a normal schedule after my nice long, and busy weekend. This past Thursday I hopped on a plane (not to LAX) but to Illinois to be part of the celebration of my best friend from college jCm as she became Mrs. B! I was honored when J asked me to be her MOH and I was so happy to stand by her side on Saturday. I thought I should share a quick weekend update. *beware of picture overload

Thursday. The weekend started with an early wake up call to make a flight. Of course we started off the weekened with a little bridesmaid selfies before getting on the plane. And no we did not reenact any part of the film Bridesmaids. Luckily we all made it safely to IL with all our luggage and we were on our way to J's place.

We were greeted by this little guy. Meet Max. J&P rescued him and he is a little parrot since he loves being on people's shoulders.

After settling in we grabbed some lunch and then went off to get our nails done.

After nails it was time for some frozen custard and hanging out at the house before we went to see J & P's new place for their final walk through. Their new house is a great started home and I know they are so excited to move in. After the walk through us girls quickly got ready to go to dinner and drinks for J's bachelorette. It was a bit unconventional having dinner with the groom and all the family but we were able to take lots of photos! After a few drinks it was back to J's where we all crashed quickly since essentially we had been up since 4am with the time difference.

 

 Friday. After sleeping in, it was off to errands and grabbing some Panera before heading to the lake to get ready for some photos. We were able to get some of J's bridals done before the rain began but then it became light enough we got some more shots done!

After photos would have been the rehearsal but the minister was stuck in Atlanta due to weather. So we all got ready and headed into the city for dinner at the Spaghetti Factory which was so delicious and the bridal party might have all gotten balloon animals. Yes we are all college grads but who doesn't need a balloon giraffe? Also I think the rest of the table thought we were crazy since at one point we were all close to rolling on the floor laughing so hard. I love these girls and am blessed to call them not only friends but sisters.

 

Saturday. THE BIG DAY! It had arrived. After spending so much time in the city the night before we all got up and ready to go run a few errands before heading over to the salon. We all got ready with only one minor trip to the gas station nearby for food. I mean everyone needs caffeine and chocolate the morning of their wedding, right? After hair we headed over to the venue to get ready and hang out.

 The time passed by so quickly and before you knew it it was time to get dressed and down to the ceremony!

Then the bride and groom hopped on a boat and went up the lake to the clubhouse for the reception!

I was lucky my best guy friend came up from Atlanta to be my date and celebrate J so we all took some photos before heading to the reception.

The reception was a lot of fun and I only cried during the father/daughter dance and I made it through my speech without any major hiccups. We danced the night away and eventually stole the bride for some photos out on the deck (the guys had our cameras/phones so the quality is not the best)

Sunday. Waking up really early after 5 hours of sleep is not fun.  mKh, aAc and I all got ready to go and hopped in the car to the airport by 7am. We were lucky to be on the same flight again so it was time to get through baggage check and security (all while keeping our bouquets in tack) and off to wait for our flight. We had the sweetest stewards/stewardesses who all loved the bouquets and thankfully found a small overhead bin so they were safe in flight. GO SOUTHWEST! We made it back to NC by 12:30 and by 1pm I was home and it was time to work on some more unpacking of my new place. The rest of Sunday was pretty lazy. A trip to the grocery store. Target. and washing hairspray out of my hair concluded the night with me in bed by 9pm.

Proud Advisor Moment

Hi All,

So I am still living in a land of boxes but my old apartment is cleaned and the keys will be turned in shortly. I just wanted to give a shout out to my sorority. This weekend was Phi Beta Chi's National Convention in Chicago. I never made it to convention as an active even when I was the VP so I really considered going this summer but the move and a wedding next weekend took that plan off the table. Our two delegates from Kappa chapter I know were really excited to attend especially with the voting of a new National Executive Council President on the books.

The convention was themed "Say Yes to the Crest" and I can't wait to here more from Kaleigh & Claire when they are back at school about how everything went but apart from our new NEC president being our first president from Texas I want to brag on my chapter for a minute.

This year as one of the faculty advisors has been tough and I am so proud of all of the accomplishments that the girls have made and all of the awards they received from the national office.

Kappa chapter received the Service Award for the 2013-2014 year. I am so proud of all the opportunities the women participate in to serve others. Whether it is through philanthropy events they host like Breakfast for Bethesda or Deb's Powderpuff Football Tournament, or going to make dinner at the Ronald McDonald House and crafting with kids at the Pediatric Playroom our sisters know that service to others is important to the sorority and shows God's love and grace.

Kappa's own Chaplain for the 2014 year received the Leadership award. I am so ecstatic for Sarah. She has served the chapter so well this past semester and all throughout the summer encouraging everyone and being a resource.

I am honored to know that I was selected as the winner of the Alumnae Award. I cannot believe that the chapter nominated me and I was selected over the countless number of women who help Phi Beta Chi sisters and help the sorority grow and flourish. I would not be who I am if I did not go through recruitment back in Fall 2008 and I am blessed to have all of these sisters, many whom I have never met supporting me.

Seriously, these girls work so hard and all I can say is that I am proud of all of their work and accomplishments. Yes, we have some growing pains and we are still learning about living in the house after a few years but these sisters are amazing and I am so lucky to have each and every one of them in my life not only as their advisor but as their sister and friend.

HAPPY WEDDING DAY L&C!

Hey y'all,

Today is a big day! The first of my really close friends is getting married! I met Laura through Phi Beta Chi and we were both in the Sigma AM class (pledge class). I am so blessed that we were put in that class together since then were we both English majors and had a few classes discussing Brit Lit together, suffered through CHEM 101 together, discussed the problems of Pre-Cal & French classes, giggled over VeggieTales (she's Larry and I'm Bob) and spent so many hours catching up at McAllister's discussing life, boys, faith and books. 

This girl is so special and I am so happy for her and C. They are so perfect together and I know the Lord brought them together to support and love one another. I mean, if you look at their engagement photos from Emily March Photography you can tell they are such a happy couple just from their smiles. I am sad that this union means Laura will be moving far away for a while but I know that they are meant to be. Let's bring on a wonderful wedding celebrating their love!

30 days of thanks {rHm aka the roomie}

Hey y'all,

So today's 30 days of thanks goes to the girl that makes sure I am alive daily, eats all of my crazy recipes, inspires me to be healthy, will dance with me in the living room, understands Scandal, Reign, Alias, and Gilmore Girls are all great shows, is the only one who makes cooked spinach that I will eat, and so much more, yep I'm talking about my fabulous roommate rHm!

rHm and I met way back in the fall of our first year of college in Art History class aka "Art in the Dark." Our friendship continued when she was the suitemate of one of my friends, rMc and in Spring 2010 we became sorority sisters! When we were at our last alumni event in the spring we were both talking about looking for places to live and people to live with since I was living alone and hating it and she was living with some people but it wasn't the best situation. I know God placed us in each other's lives since we are so similar and great friends and roomies.

 rHm is a great church buddy, a running motivator, a great confidante, a good ear for all kinds of rants especially about stupid boys, a country music lover,  the person who understands all my funny faces and so much more. I wish I could explain all of my thanks for having this friend as my roommate when I come home after a long day she is there to listen, help me to have fun and even if it is just running to the grocery store we have so much fun!

Hey y'all,

My office has a case of the Mondays but it is ok because I had an amazing weekend that I think the quiet will help.So let's get right to my weekend re-cap.

Friday.

Friday I left the office and ran back to my apartment to grab the letter shirt from All that Jas that had arrived in anticipation of Big/Little reveal Saturday. After chatting with the roommate before she headed off to work I headed to the gym. After watching Family Feud while getting some time on the elliptical I headed over to Target to grab some things for dinner. My apartment's fridge has been having issues so I did not trust the milk I put in there for any meal. Luckily the fridge had a temp fix by Friday and will get the new part this week! It was a relaxing night and I was able to get in some reading and me-time.

Saturday.

After getting up a bit early to get ready I was off to Chapel Hill for a work function that included a tour of the Loudermilk Center for Excellence and the Kenan Football Center as well as lunch before the Boston College/Carolina game. It was a lot of fun hanging out with some of my co-workers at a Carolina game and we had some great seats to watch Carolina win against Boston College!

With AC who is so sweet, I love that I get to work closely with her daily.

 So I left the game in the middle of the fourth quarter in order to make it over to the PBX house in time for one of the biggest events of the semester, Big/Little reveal! My family welcomed a new little addition, gBl and I am so excited for the Fish Fam!

 The night ended with watching DCC: Making the Team, doing some dishes and then having some heart to heart talks with the roomie until after 1am.

Sunday.

After my usual morning babysitting I ran home to begin working on my mess of a closet. I keep putting off cleaning my closet which is the messiest part of my room but I was able to clean it up a bit before heading with the roomie to grab a pumpkin for carving! We checked Aldi but their selection was limited and luckily the Target had a great one. After church we headed home to make a yummy dinner of shrimp in a vodka sauce over pasta and corn. It was then time to carve so we threw on the Princess Bride and to the sound of "as you wish" and discussed our love of the film though it had been forever since we had seen it but could still quote the entire thing. 

And being the people we are, our pumpkin had a minion design. I mean, it fits in with our collection...

Hey y'all,

I need to brag on my sorority for a minute and if you are new to the blog or do not understand greek life I am sorry but these women have shaped my college experience and life and I am blessed to serve along side them as an adviser, sister and friend. My sorority chapter has a blog component on the website and one of our new members wrote a beautiful post today that had me reaching for a tissue. This young woman has been a part of my sisterhood for just over a week and already feels so comfortable and excited about PBX. This post shows that although there is a stereotype of Greek life it means so much more to wear letters, it is not about Lilly, monograms and pearls but rather about finding people to love on you, accept you, and help you grow. It is about the service of others, scholarship, and being a part of something greater than yourself during college and afterwards.
