Where did I go?

Hey y'all,

Sorry for the mini disappearance, I have been spending a lot of time at the house in prep for and during Recruitment.
Current EVP and I
Last night was pref night and I can't wait to celebrate and welcome all the new members on Friday but for today, this alum is drinking a lot of caffeine and is excited for a calm night at home.

So, I will be making a mass catch-up blogtember post tonight as well as my Kate Spade by Lifeguard Press planner review and some apartment updates!

Thanks for understanding!

ISFJ: Back to Blogtember

via
Hey y'all,

So this weekend was kind of crazy but I will post a shenanigans update later today, but I am back to following the Blogtember prompts and today's was:

Take this short personality test and respond to your results. (at the end, find the detailed profile of your personality account - click "click to view" under "You" and "self awareness and personal growth." You can even google your type and find more info on it!)

I have always wondered what my personality type would be on the Myers-Brigg scale and I am a ISFJ according to the Jung Typology quiz. Here is some of the detailed information about my personality (If you don't want to read the whole thing I bold-ed and italicized some phrases that are so me it is not even funny).

"ISFJs are characterized above all by their desire to serve others, their "need to be needed." In extreme cases, this need is so strong that standard give-and-take relationships are deeply unsatisfying to them; however, most ISFJs find more than enough with which to occupy themselves within the framework of a normal life. (Since ISFJs, like all SJs, are very much bound by the prevailing social conventions, their form of "service" is likely to exclude any elements of moral or political controversy; they specialize in the local, the personal, and the practical.)

ISFJs are often unappreciated, at work, home, and play. Ironically, because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and unstinting, high-quality work, those around them often take them for granted--even take advantage of them. Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves; for instance, they are notoriously bad at delegating ("If you want it done right, do it yourself"). And although they're hurt by being treated like doormats, they are often unwilling to toot their own horns about their accomplishments because they feel that although they deserve more credit than they're getting, it's somehow wrong to want any sort of reward for doing work (which is supposed to be a virtue in itself). (And as low-profile Is, their actions don't call attention to themselves as with charismatic Es.) Because of all of this, ISFJs are often overworked, and as a result may suffer from psychosomatic illnesses.

In the workplace, ISFJs are methodical and accurate workers, often with very good memories and unexpected analytic abilities; they are also good with people in small-group or one-on-one situations because of their patient and genuinely sympathetic approach to dealing with others. ISFJs make pleasant and reliable co-workers and exemplary employees, but tend to be harried and uncomfortable in supervisory roles. They are capable of forming strong loyalties, but these are personal rather than institutional loyalties; if someone they've bonded with in this way leaves the company, the ISFJ will leave with them, if given the option. Traditional careers for an ISFJ include: teaching, social work, most religious work, nursing, medicine (general practice only), clerical and and secretarial work of any kind, and some kinds of administrative careers.

While their work ethic is high on the ISFJ priority list, their families are the centers of their lives. ISFJs are extremely warm and demonstrative within the family circle--and often possessive of their loved ones, as well. When these include Es who want to socialize with the rest of the world, or self-contained ITs, the ISFJ must learn to adjust to these behaviors and not interpret them as rejection. Being SJs, they place a strong emphasis on conventional behavior (although, unlike STJs, they are usually as concerned with being "nice" as with strict propriety); if any of their nearest and dearest depart from the straight-and-narrow, it causes the ISFJ major embarrassment: the closer the relationship and the more public the act, the more intense the embarrassment (a fact which many of their teenage children take gleeful advantage of). Over time, however, ISFJs usually mellow, and learn to regard the culprits as harmless eccentrics :-). Needless to say, ISFJs take infinite trouble over meals, gifts, celebrations, etc., for their loved ones--although strong Js may tend to focus more on what the recipient should want rather than what they do want.

Like most Is, ISFJs have a few, close friends. They are extremely loyal to these, and are ready to provide emotional and practical support at a moment's notice. (However, like most Fs they hate confrontation; if you get into a fight, don't expect them to jump in after you. You can count on them, however, run and get the nearest authority figure.) Unlike with EPs, the older the friendship is, the more an ISFJ will value it. One ISFJ trait that is easily misunderstood by those who haven't known them long is that they are often unable to either hide or articulate any distress they may be feeling. For instance, an ISFJ child may be reproved for "sulking," the actual cause of which is a combination of physical illness plus misguided "good manners." An adult ISFJ may drive a (later ashamed) friend or SO into a fit of temper over the ISFJ's unexplained moodiness, only afterwards to explain about a death in the family they "didn't want to burden anyone with." Those close to ISFJs should learn to watch for the warning signs in these situations and take the initiative themselves to uncover the problem."

So I hope all that information tells you a little bit more about me!

GAME DAY!

Hey y'all,

My best guy friend is in town for the weekend and we scored some tickets to UNC's first home game of the season against Middle Tennessee State University so I thought I would show another gameday look. This is similar to what I will probably be wearing to the game this afternoon!

Happy Birthday, sCa!

Hey y'all,

We interrupt Blogtember with the celebration of my beautiful Big's birthday!

My experience at Carolina would have been completely different if I had not joined PBX and met my beautiful Big, sCa. She is one of the sweetest people and has always been there for late night venting, tons of support, and lots of love. I can't wait to see what this year has in store for her and hopefully it will include some catch up visits/time since I haven't been able to see her since October of 2011 due to our both being in school/job searching.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite 24 year old!

3 month getaway....

Hey y'all,

So we are onto day two of Blogtember. I loved reading where people are from/how they describe themselves. So we are onto the next topic and I am pretty excited so let's get started.

If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do? (bonus points for fun photos from Pinterest, but don't forget to cite the source!)

I am answering this question with the belief that this is a paid vacation and I have won the lottery so that money is not a question. I would of course travel. I'm thinking one week for each place meaning 12 weeks/90-ish days of fun so here is where I would go:

Wurzburg, Germany
via
via
I lived in Wurzburg so I would love to go back and explore the city for 6 days, then I think I take a trip by Neuschwanstein since it was my favorite castle we saw in Germany on my way to my next destination.
via
Rome, Italy
via
We never actually made it to Rome when we were in Europe, we did have lots of adventures in Italy but Rome never made the cut so I would love to spend a week between there and Florence.
via
Greece
via
I am such an Art History nerd if you can't tell so after a week in Greece the next stop would be quick trips to the Louvre in Paris, France and the British Museum in London, England.
via
via
Then to the Highlands!

Scotland
via
After a few fun days in Scotland and maybe a trip over to Ireland. After a month or so gallivanting in Europe I think it would be time to relax:

St. Lucia
via
And after fun in the Carribean I would spend some time visiting friends and traveling in the US.
San Antonio, Texas & Dallas, Texas
via
I would of course go to a game during my week in TEXAS!
via
Disney World, Florida
via
I would love to spend a week in the greatest place on Earth!

Savannah,Georgia & Atlanta, Georgia
via
via
Charleston, SC & Kiawah Island, SC
via
and the trip would end with returning here:

Chapel Hill, North Carolina

In reality, if I had 3 months of planned vacation I would spend a lot of time with my parents and the adorable kittens and then probably take a few trips to the beach, visit friends around NC and maybe make a trip to DC to see the bestie, IL to see jCm and NYC to see Ty.

Where would you go/do with three months?

Who is jDl: Blogtember

Hey y'all,

Today's Blogtember topic is Describe where or what you come from. The people, the places, and/or the factors that make up who you are. So there are a lot of factors that contribute to who I am so here are a few things that make me, me!

So y'all know I am from North Carolina but I am actually an army brat so I was born in Texas and my parents are from each coast so there is no direct place that contains "home" to me.
Not a glamorous shot, but part of my family Christmas 2011.
Home has always been around my parents. They are the best parent's I could ask for and I have been so blessed by them through the years whether through advice, spiritual guidance, emotional support, financial contributions, and so much more. I really have the best
family and between my parents and siblings. Being one of four kids has really affected my life, I mean I have middle child syndrome and my little sister is one of my best friends. My mom has defined my life a lot, she is the one who taught me how to cook/bake, craft, and my love of reading.

Apart from my parent's my Dad's job instilled a love of travel in me as well as an appreciation of long friendships. Living in Europe for three years grew a great love and appreciation for other cultures. Being a military child and moving so much makes you appreciate your friendships that last through years and distance.

Carolina. UNC has of course shaped my life in a positive way. I really never expected to attend UNC and I know it was ultimately God's plan. At Carolina I challenged myself and it was a lot of growing in my personality and now I am blessed to drive to UNC for my job.

PBX. My sisters in Phi Beta Chi have of course influenced and helped define me. From growing spiritually to having 100+ sisters to watch my back my experience was amazing and I was able to serve in two different leadership capacities and now I can help the chapter as an advisor.
I am a daughter, a sister, a Tar Heel, a traveler, a food lover, a bookworm, a crafter, a blogger, a postgrad, a prep, a child of God, a girl.
I'm Jessica.

Who are you?

Happy Birthday, mGk!

Hey y'all,

Today marks Little #2's 23rd Birthday! I am so blessed to have not only one beautiful little, kBb but in the Spring my Junior year I met my second little, mGk and the rest is history. Here is to lots more adventures over the year especially since she now lives only 30 minutes from me!

And yes it is cool that my littles and I are only half a year apart age-wise, but their birthdays do make me feel old. It also doesn't help that my great-grandlittle is only 19 and I get a great-great-grandlittle this fall!

Gearing Up for September

Hey y'all,

I am in denial that September starts TOMORROW! While a lot of you are probably off enjoying the beach, today I am currently cleaning and organizing my room! I just opened my last box!

So, I thought I would tell y'all all about the exciting things happening around this little blog and my life....

Blogtember
So many of you remember the challenge to blog every day in May and Jenni of Story of My Life created a new challenge for the month of September. I love the various ideas and have already started to plan some. So my goal is to follow the schedule and then add some extra blog posts about my place and various things.

September 3's post begins with a question I would love to hear from some of my favorite bloggers. Post Monday with"Describe where or what you come from. The people, the places, and/or the factors that make up who you are."

Good Morning Girls study Loving Like Jesus
So the study begins on Monday so all of you who want to join in, subscribe to the GMG blog and you will get all the various materials at the end of every email. I am not sure if you can still join a group on the forum or enroll but you still have time! My group just got the verse of the week so I am really excited!

Sweatember/Dietbets
I am participating in two dietbets and you can read more about them here. I am starting half marathon training and since work is back to a more regular schedule I am feeling better. I love organization and schedules so I have been adding in more workouts which is great!

What are you doing/goals for September?

Book Club Friday {August 30}

Hey y'all,

I have to start this post off with the trailer of the upcoming adaptation of Divergent. I am obsessed with the series and can't wait for the next book to come out this October but in the mean time I am going to drool over Four. There is even a Buzzfeed Article called "12 Things In The Divergent Footage That Will Make You Freak Out." You can read my Book Club Friday on Divergent and Insurgent here.

Now that I am done fangirling over a book let's get to what I read this week.
via
Ella and Micha have survived tragedy and heartbreak. When they're together, anything seems possible. But now they are thousands of miles apart, and managing their long distance relationship will put their love to the test.
Ella is back at school, trying hard not worry so much about her future. But with her father in and out of rehab, she's having a hard time making it through the days. All she wants is Micha by her side, but she refuses to let her problems get in the way of his dreams.
Micha spends his days touring the country with his band, but deep down he knows something is missing. Being away from Ella is harder than he thought it would be. He wants her closer to him-needs her with him. But he won't ask her to leave college, just to be with him.
The few moments they do spend together are intense and passionate, but it only makes it more difficult when they have to part. They know they want to be together, but is wanting something enough to get them to their forever?
A sequel the Secret of Ella and Micha I loved hearing more of their story. These are not your typical romance novels but stories of broken, dark people and the power and connection of love.

Love or life.
Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.

During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.
In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.
With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.
Even if it costs her eternity.
This was not my favorite of the Goddess Test series. It felt like it dragged on for a long time and unfortunately I was not as hooked as I had been with the others.

I am hoping to read these books over the long weekend. I have no big plans besides cleaning and a possible Disney movie day with some sorority sisters.

GAME DAY!

Hey y'all,

It is the day most of us in the South have been waiting for, the first football game of the season! While I am a fan of Saturday games, the coveted Thursday night game means tonight's showing between the Carolinas will be very interesting. I know we are not predicted to win but I am excited to see the new players and cheer on my alma mater. While I am not at the game, I thought I would put together a look I would love to rock if I was in Columbia.
Game Day1

Who are you cheering for? Are you excited for College Football to start?

Also, you should check out this poem about the Carolina posted today on the Daily Tar Heel.
