I wanna dance with somebody...

Hey y'all,

I don't know about you but I love to dance. I even was a dancer from the age of 2-10 and if I had a working scanner I would upload a pic from my childhood ballet performances. I was even a white rose in Alice and Wonderland.

But the love of dance has continued even after I stopped gracing the stage. From continuing to go to performances of the Nutcracker I watch as many dance shows and movies as I can. This summer two shows have caught my eye and are this week's My Obsession Monday.

Breaking Pointe.
The CW Thursdays. 8/7c
A reality/documentary of six dancers of the Ballet West Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. The show shows both sides of the beauty of ballet. The business and nitty gritty of rehersals as well as some of the beauty.
"For the first time ever, the beauty and grace of ballet, the world's preeminent dance form, will be brought to television viewers will also see the dark side of this seemingly perfect world; the jealousy, competition and intensity that exists behind the curtain at a professional dance company. For under the tights and tutus lie warriors, who battle in a gritty world of extreme athleticism, focus and dedication, while hunting for the unattainable...perfection...Shot in a rich, cinematic style, "Breaking Pointe" pulls the viewer directly into the company, where they will experience the exhausting rehersals, the stylized glamour of the dancer's life and the vibrant and dynamic main-stage performances."
From a girl who always wanted to be a principal ballerina up until I hit the age of 10 I understand the strain these artists have gone through and the show is a great homage to the athletic side as well as the beauty these individuals create through their work.
Here is a preview clip so you can judge if you want to watch the company's behind the scenes.

Here is an introduction of the dancers:

I have loved the first two episodes and if you missed them you can catch them on the CW's website here.

Bunheads.
Abc Family. Mondays at 9pm.
Bunheads premieres TONIGHT on ABCFamily. The show from Amy Sherrman-Palladine (hello Gilmore Girls anyone), is a "tale of a Las Vags showgirl, who impulsively marries a man, moves to his sleepy coastal town and takes an uneasy role at her new mother-in-law's dance studio." I love a good ABC Family show and get hooked every time so I am excited for a new dance show especially since I loved Gilmore Girls as well.

Another dance film that I am dying to see is First Position: A Ballet Documentary. The film follows young ballet dancers from all over the world as they compete for dance scholarships. The movie however is still in small release due to it's independent film nature. Here is the trailer.

Other Favorite Dance Shows/Movies.
Dance Moms.
Abby Lee Miller is back on Lifetime Tuesdays at 9/8c.
So You Think You Can Dance.
One of my summer staples of television and I love the competition. You can catch it on Fox Wednesdays at 8/7c.
Center Stage.
One of my favorite dance movies.
Ballerina.
A documentary on the outstanding Russian ballerinas from the Mariinsky Theatre(Kirov Ballet).

Are you obsessed with Dance too? What are you currently obsessed with?

Peace and Blessings,
jDl

  1. I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed the shows! I danced all through my childhood until I left for college as well and was intrigued by previews but haven't had a chance to catch them yet!

  2. Dance Moms is one of my favorite shows EVER!! I also danced when I was little, and it makes me miss it! I saw a bunch of previews for Bunheads when I went to see The Hunger Games (super weird to see TV promos at the movies...) and both my mom and I are dying to see it! Too bad it comes on at the same time as The Bachelorette :)

  3. Dance Moms is SUCH a guilty pleasure of mine! My sisters & I would all cram in the basement to watch it together. Dance Moms Miami is not as good, though. I am OBSESSED with So You Think You Can Dance & I know a couple of the girls who made it to Vegas (friends of friends/sorority sisters/FSU Golden Girls!). I'm super excited for this season, but I'm not sure how they're gonna change things up now that they only have one day a week.
