My weekend was nice and relaxing but not worthy of a weekend update. I was brainstorming ideas for blog posts and remembered that it had been FOREVER since I had done any book reviews. If you did not know my goal this year is to read 114 books. I think I can make it and at this point I have read 15 books (a few are half done and will be joining the list soon).
So this week I will go over a few of the last books I have read and I encourage lots of book suggestions/recommendations. I do want to preface that I tend to read a lot of teen novels or paranormal romance series but I will also be reviewing Erin James' new devotional later on in the week.
Today's novel:
Synopsis:
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
Opinion:
Ok, so the movie trailer makes this book series look awful but I gave it a chance since one of my co-workers said it was actually good. I am indifferent. I didn't love the series or hate it. I don't think I will continue on since I was not hooked. It is mainly about Rose and Lissa and their relationship as friends as well as a guardian/vampire while dealing with boarding school/high school. I think if I was younger while reading this I might be more interested but it was not something I would say is a must read. I say if you enjoy books about vampires and high school aged individuals it is not a bad idea to check it out but it is more of an ok/like than a love.
Have you read this series? Thoughts?
So glad you reviewed this book! I'd heard since I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and recent fan of the Divergent series, I'd like this series, but I'd never been into vampires so I wasn't sure about it.... I definitely think I'll check out some other books on your list first now that I've read your review!
